The Adventures of Baron Munchausen in Russia
About

On the 32nd of May, a day gifted to the world by Baron Munchausen himself, an exhibition dedicated to this legendary character and his real-life counterpart, Hieronymus Karl Friedrich von Munchausen, opened in the Small Hermitage Manege. This exhibition combines historical facts with fantastical adventures, narrating the baron’s time in Russia and his remarkable exploits.

To create this unique exhibition, our company, NIKO Digital Prod., implemented a series of multimedia solutions that transformed the visit into a true adventure. We designed animated calligraphic texts for mirrored panels and projections that complement real images on the walls. The project also includes a circular mapping projection with cherry blossom flowers, created using neural networks and complementing a wall composition featuring a large deer’s head, as well as an animation of the newspaper «Petersburg Gazette», where illustrations of mythical creatures come to life on the pages.

Of particular note is our application for the interactive installation «Cannonball Flight». Using a sensor-equipped torch, visitors can «fire» from an authentic mortar, sending the hero soaring over 18th-century landscapes. This feature not only brings historical facts to life but also blurs the lines between reality and literary fantasy, immersing visitors in a captivating journey through the pages of the famous baron’s life and adventures.
